A Win

Football
Such an unimportant game in the grand scheme of things
Lives aren’t saved or lost by its junctures
Hope or despair not decided upon its turf

Fluff, escapism, competition, distraction
The sport lends itself to these for me
Something to look forward to, smile about, cheer

The real game I see played out in front of me
Brings brave souls daily making strides
Adjusting, accepting, grieving, seeking

The survivor world full of recovery
Two steps forward, one step back
The ultimate dance of life past trauma

My team may falter…
But a win
Hovers
Yet in sight
