The world is descending on Sochi, Russia.
Having lived in the southern part of that country for more than a decade, I am hyped about the coming days. I can’t wait to see the pictures broadcasted of beautiful mountains and quaint Russian cultural scenes. Of athletes going for glory and giving their all.
The first-comers may be tweeting about rusty-looking water and unusual bathroom issues, but hopefully the quirky things will fall away when the action begins.
I will be the first to admit that Russia can be a notoriously mysterious place. But therein lies the intrigue. A mission awaits. To gain insights. To appreciate a place and a people that we truly understand little of.
