Momentum

The impact of stories and human drama…
The lives of survivors are rich with it
Or cursed by it
Depending on your point of view

Some days it is a wonder we can put one foot in front of the other
If we even have two feet to work with

I get overwhelmed as I listen
Trying to sort out the facts amidst the feelings
Helping someone talk about the event

For each of us there are these moments of looking back
And being stunned by the reality of what occurred
Like a bubble of time incomprehensible

Did that really happen to me?
How did I end up here?
Where do I go from this moment?

Agonizing over the what-ifs
Is a normal reaction
But not useful to endlessly obsess over

Better to put one foot (or prosthesis) forward
And another and another
Hoping the momentum will lead us to our future
Moving in a direction
Better than clinging to a past out of our reach

  1. Mona, thank you for this. Sometimes we are enclosed within our own little life , not aware the others are having similar thoughts and emotions. This has me stop and realize some of what is going on in my son’s life and responses not voiced. I feel you are my friend and I thank you for it.

    1. Mary, you have been through a lot together – hope and pray the communication continues. It is not easy to voice our deepest thoughts and be aware of how we are feeling – I still struggle with being in touch with where I am at and think others do too! : )

  2. Hi Mona! I enjoyed your story very much when you went all the way to the Editor’s desk on Authonomy. I’m trying to follow up on everyone who was kind enough to post reviews and ratings for me on Authonomy on my originally titled book, ‘AFRICAN ADVENTURES OF FLAME, FAMILY, FURRY AND FEATHERED FRIENDS’ – now Fauna Park Tales. Please visit my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/flameandhope.co.uk and like if you feel it warrants such. Look forward to chatting again. Have a pleasant day. 🙂
