An Inside Job

Overheard recently… “Recovery is an inside job.”

In the survivor world, we like to analyze what makes people resilient. Why do some overcome a severe burn or trauma, while others flounder? We can list out factors such as one’s psych history, coping skills, ambition, support systems, personality, faith, finances, etc. We can assign them percentages and test our hypotheses.

But facts and figures don’t give the whole picture – the mystery of choosing life despite great adversity. I believe finding meaning is one of the keys. Wrapped in different packages but there to discover from our inner worlds.

If your loved ones bring meaning to your life – then love them more profoundly, more intently. If your career gives you great satisfaction and you can still work – pursue it with your whole heart. If not – find a new outlet that will let you give something from your core. If this new understanding you have of suffering can help another struggler, then reach out.

You matter. Your life matters.

We’ve been given the gift of borrowed time. Let’s use it wisely. Strategically.
